Stepping forward against a clean white backdrop, Kiwi is a native bird art print from Hiriwā Digital Art’s Inked collection. Loose strokes of warm brown, ochre and charcoal bring out the kiwi’s shaggy, hair-like feathers, while its long bill and powerful legs give the bird its unmistakable silhouette. Expressive black ink splashes and earthy washes surround the figure, giving this New Zealand icon a bold contemporary treatment.
Endemic to Aotearoa New Zealand, kiwi are flightless birds with tiny vestigial wings and an unusually well-developed sense of smell. Unlike most birds, their nostrils sit close to the tip of their long bill, helping them locate food as they probe through soil and leaf litter.
