Perched alertly against a clean white backdrop, Kārearea | Falcon is a native bird art print from Hiriwā Digital Art’s Inked collection. Warm brown, russet and cream tones define the kārearea’s layered plumage, with bold streaking across the breast and powerful yellow talons gripping the branch below. Expressive black brushwork twists through the composition, surrounded by loose ink splashes that give New Zealand’s native falcon a strong, contemporary presence.
Endemic to Aotearoa New Zealand, the kārearea is a powerful and exceptionally agile bird of prey. New Zealand falcons can reach speeds of up to 200 km/h and are capable of catching prey larger than themselves, using speed and manoeuvrability to hunt birds and other animals in flight and on the ground.
