Perched together among expressive black brushwork, Tauhou | Wax-eye is a native bird art print from Hiriwā Digital Art’s Inked collection. Two tauhou are rendered in fresh olive-green, grey and warm russet tones, with their distinctive white eye-rings standing out sharply against the surrounding plumage. Angular branches, loose ink strokes and scattered splashes frame the pair against a clean white background, giving the composition its lively contemporary character.
Also known as the silvereye, tauhou arrived in New Zealand naturally during the 1800s and are now widespread throughout the country. Their Māori name means “stranger” or “new arrival”, reflecting their relatively recent appearance in Aotearoa. These small birds feed on insects, fruit and nectar and are now a familiar sight in forests, gardens and suburban areas.
Designed and printed in Aotearoa New Zealand, Tauhou | Wax-eye is available as a physical fine art print in sizes A4, A3, A2, A1 and A0. Each print is produced using pigment-based, UV-stable archival inks on 230gsm smooth matte archival-quality paper. Every print sold also funds the planting of at least one native tree in Aotearoa.
