Kekeno | New Zealand Fur Seal

Kekeno, the New Zealand fur seal, is an eared seal recognised by its pointed muzzle and small external ear flaps. Often seen resting on rocky shores, it has a much more demanding life offshore: West Coast females have occasionally dived below 238 metres and stayed underwater for up to 11 minutes. Its hind flippers can also turn forwards, helping it move on land.

Warm brown and gold pick out the seal’s muzzle, whiskers and upright body above a dark rocky base. Turquoise washes introduce the sea below it, contrasting with the close detail of the face. The lifted head gives the portrait an alert character within a relaxed coastal setting.

Printed on 230gsm smooth matte archival-quality paper, with a smooth, non-glossy finish.

Pigment-based, UV-stable archival inks reproduce the colours and fine details of the original digital artwork. Each giclée print is produced in New Zealand.
