Tūī

Tūī are honeyeaters endemic to New Zealand, carrying pollen between native flowers as they feed. Skilled mimics, they can copy other birds and even phone ringtones, while some parts of their song lie beyond human hearing. Their characteristic flight whirr comes from a different source: a notch in a wing feather helps produce the sound. A tūī can announce itself through its feathers as well as its voice.

Teal, blue and bronze plumage catches the eye above expressive black brushwork. Fine feather detail around the head and breast contrasts with the open white background and loose splashes. The portrait gives the tūī a vivid presence, balancing its glossy colour with the stronger gestures of ink.

Printed on 230gsm smooth matte archival-quality paper, with a smooth, non-glossy finish.

Pigment-based, UV-stable archival inks reproduce the colours and fine details of the original digital artwork. Each giclée print is produced in New Zealand.
