Kākā

The kākā is a forest parrot endemic to New Zealand, related to the kea but adapted to life among trees. It follows seasonal supplies of fruit, seeds, nectar and wood-boring insects. It is also a capable island-hopper: tracking and banding have shown birds moving among the Hen and Chickens, Hauturu and Aotea despite stretches of up to 25 kilometres of open water.

Russet and bronze feathers gather around a strongly curved beak, giving the kākā a warm, substantial presence. Fine markings around the face contrast with restless ink below the body. The darker perch and splashes keep the composition lively without losing the detail of the forest parrot.

Printed on 230gsm smooth matte archival-quality paper, with a smooth, non-glossy finish.

Pigment-based, UV-stable archival inks reproduce the colours and fine details of the original digital artwork. Each giclée print is produced in New Zealand.
