Tauhou | Wax-eye

Tauhou reached New Zealand from Australia under their own power, rather than being released by settlers, which is why they are regarded as native despite their relatively recent arrival. Behind the tiny bill is a brush-tipped tongue, similar to those of tūī and bellbirds, which helps it collect nectar. This little garden visitor is equipped to feed among flowers as well as hunt insects and eat fruit.

Two olive-green birds share a perch among angular branches and scattered black ink. Their white eye-rings make bright focal points within the softer green, grey and russet feathers. The paired arrangement adds companionship to a composition whose loose marks keep it light and lively.

Printed on 230gsm smooth matte archival-quality paper, with a smooth, non-glossy finish.

Pigment-based, UV-stable archival inks reproduce the colours and fine details of the original digital artwork. Each giclée print is produced in New Zealand.
