Kea

The kea is a parrot endemic to New Zealand’s South Island, with a curious nature and a diet suited to a demanding mountain environment. Although associated with snowy peaks, it also forages in forest and can breed in winter. Its nest is tucked into a cavity on or beneath the ground, while its long bill helps dig out roots and insect larvae.

Raised wings reveal orange-red colour beneath moss-green feathers, making the kea’s movement the centre of the portrait. Dark strokes echo the spread of the wings without containing it. Fine feather detail and loose ink give the bird an alert, restless character.

Printed on 230gsm smooth matte archival-quality paper, with a smooth, non-glossy finish.

Pigment-based, UV-stable archival inks reproduce the colours and fine details of the original digital artwork. Each giclée print is produced in New Zealand.
