Kārearea | Falcon

Kārearea is New Zealand’s endemic falcon, an agile hunter quite different from the larger harrier commonly seen over paddocks. Despite its aerial skill, it may lay its eggs in a simple scrape on the ground rather than a built nest. Rocky ledges and plants growing in trees are also used, but ground nesting leaves this powerful bird vulnerable to introduced mammals.

Yellow talons grip the perch beneath a poised bird, its dark eye framed by russet and cream feathers. The compact posture gives the portrait a concentrated energy. Expressive black strokes around the branch contrast with the careful markings across the falcon’s breast and face.

Printed on 230gsm smooth matte archival-quality paper, with a smooth, non-glossy finish.

Pigment-based, UV-stable archival inks reproduce the colours and fine details of the original digital artwork. Each giclée print is produced in New Zealand.
