Kākāpō

Endemic to New Zealand, the kākāpō is a nocturnal, flightless parrot whose survival is closely tied to the forest around it. On southern island refuges, breeding follows heavy rimu fruiting, so years may pass between breeding seasons. Males attract females by calling from prepared track-and-bowl systems, but the females alone incubate the eggs and raise the chicks.

Moss-green and yellow feathers frame the kākāpō’s rounded, owl-like face. Closely worked texture gives the body softness, while broad black marks lend weight beneath it. The pale background leaves space around the bird, making its unusual face and steady gaze the natural focal point.

Printed on 230gsm smooth matte archival-quality paper, with a smooth, non-glossy finish.

Pigment-based, UV-stable archival inks reproduce the colours and fine details of the original digital artwork. Each giclée print is produced in New Zealand.
