Kāhu | Harrier Hawk

Kāhu, the Australasian harrier, is a native bird of prey often seen gliding over New Zealand’s open country with its wings held in a shallow V. Courtship reveals a more acrobatic side: pairs perform rocking dives followed by steep climbs in large U-shaped loops. These displays can take place above the nesting area long before eggs are laid.

A golden eye holds the focus above warm brown plumage and powerful talons. Russet washes soften the body while darker brushwork strengthens the outline and perch. The portrait exchanges the familiar distant silhouette over a paddock for a close view of the harrier’s watchful face.

Printed on 230gsm smooth matte archival-quality paper, with a smooth, non-glossy finish.

Pigment-based, UV-stable archival inks reproduce the colours and fine details of the original digital artwork. Each giclée print is produced in New Zealand.
