About the Artwork

Native dune plants such as spinifex and pīngao help build dunes by trapping windblown sand as they grow. The dune is also a store of sediment: storms can remove sand from its seaward face, which may later be returned by gentler conditions. Healthy dunes are therefore moving coastal systems rather than simply hills that need to stay still.

A pale path winds between dune grasses towards turquoise water, recalling the open shoreline of Pāpāmoa Beach in the Bay of Plenty. The grasses frame the approach while leaving sea and sky wide open beyond. Light sand and cool blue give the composition a bright, uncluttered feeling, inviting you towards the water.

Canvas & Construction

Printed in New Zealand on 360gsm premium natural white matte cotton canvas. The canvas is acid-free and OBA-free, with a neutral-pH coating designed for water-based inks.

The canvas is stretched over kiln-dried New Zealand pine stretcher bars, giving the artwork depth and a finished shape for your wall.

Size & Edge Finishes

Available in A4 (21 × 29.7cm), A3 (29.7 × 42cm), A2 (42 × 59.4cm), A1 (59.4 × 84.1cm) and A0 (84.1 × 118.8cm). The artwork’s orientation determines which side is the width.

  • Mirror Edge: the edge of the image is reflected around the sides.
  • Black: the sides are finished in black.
  • None (Blank): the sides are left blank.

Your edge choice changes the sides of the canvas, allowing you to choose the finish that suits your space.

Caring for Your Canvas

Display indoors, away from direct sunlight, damp areas and sources of heat. Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth and avoid water, cleaning sprays or pressure on the printed surface.

Lift by the stretcher frame, taking care not to press or stretch the canvas.

Planting Native Trees

Every canvas print funds a native tree through Trees That Count. Your planting-region selection is a preference; the final location depends on where support is needed.

Hiriwā also makes monthly contributions to Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari, supporting native forest and wildlife conservation.
