About the Artwork
Pōhutukawa is a native coastal tree whose nectar-rich flowers support visiting birds and insects. The brilliant red ‘brush’ is made mainly of stamens, the pollen-bearing parts of the flower, rather than broad red petals. As a member of the myrtle family, it shares this distinctive floral structure with its rātā relatives, giving a familiar summer bloom a less familiar story.
Flower clusters and branching forms give this botanical study a strong silhouette. Attention moves between the fine detail of individual blooms and the larger spread of the tree’s growth. The composition celebrates the distinctive shape of pōhutukawa rather than placing it within a wider coastal scene.
Canvas & Construction
Printed in New Zealand on 360gsm premium natural white matte cotton canvas. The canvas is acid-free and OBA-free, with a neutral-pH coating designed for water-based inks.
The canvas is stretched over kiln-dried New Zealand pine stretcher bars, giving the artwork depth and a finished shape for your wall.
Size & Edge Finishes
Available in A4 (21 × 29.7cm), A3 (29.7 × 42cm), A2 (42 × 59.4cm), A1 (59.4 × 84.1cm) and A0 (84.1 × 118.8cm). The artwork’s orientation determines which side is the width.

- Black: the sides are finished in black.
- None (Blank): the sides are left blank.
Your edge choice changes the sides of the canvas, allowing you to choose the finish that suits your space.
Caring for Your Canvas
Display indoors, away from direct sunlight, damp areas and sources of heat. Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth and avoid water, cleaning sprays or pressure on the printed surface.
Lift by the stretcher frame, taking care not to press or stretch the canvas.
Planting Native Trees
Every canvas print funds a native tree through Trees That Count. Your planting-region selection is a preference; the final location depends on where support is needed.
Hiriwā also makes monthly contributions to Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari, supporting native forest and wildlife conservation.
