About the Artwork

Red horse-chestnut is an introduced ornamental tree with hand-shaped leaves and upright clusters of pink-red flowers. The multiplication sign in its botanical name, Aesculus × carnea, records its hybrid parentage. Despite the shared English name, horse-chestnuts belong to a different plant family from the sweet chestnuts grown for edible nuts, a useful reminder that common names can disguise unrelated origins.

Upright clusters of red-pink flowers rise among broad leaves, giving the artwork a clear botanical structure. The finer details of the blossoms contrast with the larger areas of foliage. The composition invites attention to the individual flowering stems of a tree more often seen as part of a park canopy.

Canvas & Construction

Printed in New Zealand on 360gsm premium natural white matte cotton canvas. The canvas is acid-free and OBA-free, with a neutral-pH coating designed for water-based inks.

The canvas is stretched over kiln-dried New Zealand pine stretcher bars, giving the artwork depth and a finished shape for your wall.

Size & Edge Finishes

Available in A4 (21 × 29.7cm), A3 (29.7 × 42cm), A2 (42 × 59.4cm), A1 (59.4 × 84.1cm) and A0 (84.1 × 118.8cm). The artwork’s orientation determines which side is the width.

  • Mirror Edge: the edge of the image is reflected around the sides.
  • Black: the sides are finished in black.
  • None (Blank): the sides are left blank.

Your edge choice changes the sides of the canvas, allowing you to choose the finish that suits your space.

Caring for Your Canvas

Display indoors, away from direct sunlight, damp areas and sources of heat. Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth and avoid water, cleaning sprays or pressure on the printed surface.

Lift by the stretcher frame, taking care not to press or stretch the canvas.
