About the Artwork
Pōhutukawa is a native New Zealand tree adapted to exposed coasts, with spreading branches and vivid summer flowers. Although planted throughout the country, its natural mainland range is broadly north of Poverty Bay and northern Taranaki. Familiar trees in southern towns can conceal that northern origin: a national emblem can grow far beyond the area where it first occurred wild.
A flowering pōhutukawa reaches from a rocky cliff above open water, recalling the tree-lined headlands of the Coromandel coast. Scarlet blooms sit against golden light and heavy cloud, while curved branches connect the solid foreground with the expansive sky. The composition balances a tenacious coastal tree with the space surrounding it.
Canvas & Construction
Printed in New Zealand on 360gsm premium natural white matte cotton canvas. The canvas is acid-free and OBA-free, with a neutral-pH coating designed for water-based inks.
The canvas is stretched over kiln-dried New Zealand pine stretcher bars, giving the artwork depth and a finished shape for your wall.
Size & Edge Finishes
Available in A4 (21 × 29.7cm), A3 (29.7 × 42cm), A2 (42 × 59.4cm), A1 (59.4 × 84.1cm) and A0 (84.1 × 118.8cm). The artwork’s orientation determines which side is the width.
- Mirror Edge: the edge of the image is reflected around the sides.
- Black: the sides are finished in black.
- None (Blank): the sides are left blank.
Your edge choice changes the sides of the canvas, allowing you to choose the finish that suits your space.
Caring for Your Canvas
Display indoors, away from direct sunlight, damp areas and sources of heat. Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth and avoid water, cleaning sprays or pressure on the printed surface.
Lift by the stretcher frame, taking care not to press or stretch the canvas.
Planting Native Trees
Every canvas print funds a native tree through Trees That Count. Your planting-region selection is a preference; the final location depends on where support is needed.
Hiriwā also makes monthly contributions to Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari, supporting native forest and wildlife conservation.
