Butterfly Elegance

Monarch butterflies bring their distinctive orange-and-black wings to New Zealand gardens, where their caterpillars feed on milkweed plants such as swan plants. Unlike the famous long-distance migrants of North America, our monarchs generally move to local overwintering sites. They can spend winter clustered together as adults in sheltered trees, waiting until conditions favour breeding again.

Two monarchs rest among fine golden blossoms, their orange wings set against muted teal and green. Crisp wing patterns contrast with the softer background, giving the delicate subjects a clear presence. Warm colour and lightly branching stems hold the composition together without disturbing its stillness.

Printed in New Zealand on 360gsm premium natural white matte cotton canvas. The canvas is acid-free and OBA-free, with a neutral-pH coating designed for water-based inks.

The canvas is stretched over kiln-dried New Zealand pine stretcher bars, giving the artwork depth and a finished shape for your wall.

Available in A4 (21 × 29.7cm), A3 (29.7 × 42cm), A2 (42 × 59.4cm), A1 (59.4 × 84.1cm) and A0 (84.1 × 118.8cm). The artwork’s orientation determines which side is the width.

• Mirror Edge: the edge of the image is reflected around the sides.
• Black: the sides are finished in black.
• None (Blank): the sides are left blank.

Your edge choice changes the sides of the canvas, allowing you to choose the finish that suits your space.

Display indoors, away from direct sunlight, damp areas and sources of heat. Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth and avoid water, cleaning sprays or pressure on the printed surface.

Lift by the stretcher frame, taking care not to press or stretch the canvas.

Every canvas print funds a native tree through Trees That Count. Your planting-region selection is a preference; the final location depends on where support is needed.

Hiriwā also makes monthly contributions to Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari, supporting native forest and wildlife conservation.
