Tiered Falls

Moss-covered ledges, dense ferns and layered cascades recall the forest waterfalls of the Catlins. White water drops from one rocky step to the next, with darker pools creating pauses between the falls. Overhanging branches frame the view, giving the scene the sheltered atmosphere of a waterfall discovered deep within the bush.

A waterfall can gradually move upstream as erosion cuts into the rock at its base. Water and sediment scour the plunge pool, sometimes undermining the ledge above until part of it collapses. The apparently fixed step is therefore a changing feature, shaped by the interaction of flowing water, transported stones and the rock’s resistance.

Printed on 230gsm smooth matte archival-quality paper, with a smooth, non-glossy finish.
