Tidal Patterns

Rippled wet sand and a dark coastal headland recall the low-tide shoreline of Ōhope Beach in the Bay of Plenty. Shallow channels catch the light beneath a brooding sky, turning the exposed shore into an almost abstract pattern. Cool reflections and warm brightness along the horizon give depth to the tide’s temporary lines.

The ocean’s tidal timetable does not follow a neat 24-hour day. Because the Moon moves along its orbit while Earth turns, a lunar day is about 24 hours and 50 minutes. Many coasts consequently have high tides that arrive later each day, gradually shifting when sandbanks and channels are exposed.

Printed on 230gsm smooth matte archival-quality paper, with a smooth, non-glossy finish.

Pigment-based, UV-stable archival inks reproduce the colours and fine details of the original digital artwork. Each giclée print is produced in New Zealand.
