The akatawhiwhi (rātā vine) is a native climbing vine with bright scarlet to orange flowers in autumn and winter that rise above the forest canopy. Unlike the northern rātā, the climbing rātā does not strangle host trees. When mature, the stems hang free from host trees like thick twisted ropes. The flower nectar is a favoured food for tūī, korimako (bellbirds), and kākā.
The A5 print is placed behind a mat border with an opening measuring 13cm x 18cm (5" x 7") and fitted within a frame sized at 20.3cm x 25.4cm (8" x 10"). The artwork is printed on 200gsm high performance/contrast white matte paper sustainably sourced and FSC certified. The frame itself is made of wood and glass and includes a hook and kickstand for wall and tabletop display.
