Pūtangitangi | Paradise Duck

Pūtangitangi, the paradise shelduck, is endemic to New Zealand and is unusual among our ducks for the female’s striking white head. Often seen grazing in paddocks, it can nest in tree holes up to 20 metres above the ground. Once the ducklings leave, both parents guard them, sometimes feigning a broken wing to draw a predator away.

Contrasting plumage and an upright posture give the shelduck a clear presence in this Black & White portrait. The restrained palette draws attention to the neck, head and layered feathers. Light and dark carry the composition, giving a familiar bird of paddocks and wetlands a more considered, close-up treatment.

Printed on 230gsm smooth matte archival-quality paper, with a smooth, non-glossy finish.

Pigment-based, UV-stable archival inks reproduce the colours and fine details of the original digital artwork. Each giclée print is produced in New Zealand.
