Pīwakawaka | Fantail

Pīwakawaka, the New Zealand fantail, is a small insect-eating bird recognised by its spread tail and quick, twisting flight. Its nest-building is just as intricate: moss and fine fibres are tightly woven together with cobwebs. Both parents care for the young, and the male can tend the fledglings while the female begins another nest, allowing successive broods in a productive season.

The spread tail gives the fantail a strong fan-shaped outline, balanced by its small body and alert head. Fine feather detail introduces softness within the clear monochrome structure. The Black & White treatment keeps the bird’s lively posture central, as though it has paused only briefly.

Printed on 230gsm smooth matte archival-quality paper, with a smooth, non-glossy finish.

Pigment-based, UV-stable archival inks reproduce the colours and fine details of the original digital artwork. Each giclée print is produced in New Zealand.
