Kererū | Wood Pigeon

The kererū is New Zealand’s large native pigeon, an important seed disperser able to swallow fruit too large for many smaller birds. Its role as a forest gardener is well known, but its parenting is more surprising: chicks are fed a protein-rich ‘pigeon milk’ produced in the lining of their parents’ crops. Fruit pulp is added as the chick grows.

The kererū’s full breast and compact silhouette anchor this monochrome portrait. Subtle feather textures give depth to the darker areas, while the pale breast provides a clear counterpoint. The Black & White treatment draws attention to form and posture rather than the bird’s familiar iridescent colour.

Printed on 230gsm smooth matte archival-quality paper, with a smooth, non-glossy finish.

Pigment-based, UV-stable archival inks reproduce the colours and fine details of the original digital artwork. Each giclée print is produced in New Zealand.
